The number of links or the centre distance hase to be specified to calculate the life time of the chain.
If the centre distance is specified, the number of links including a connecting link is automatically calculated for a two sprockets drive. No cranked link will be used. The usage of a chain tensioner is based on chain type, ratio and centre distance. If any doubt please contact your Renold Sales Agent.
Chains where uneven links are allowed will have a more precise specification of the centre distance. However, if cranked links are used, the breaking load will be reduced by 20 %. This will also reduce the chain life. Hence, the usage of cranked links should be avoided.
If the centre distance is fixed, in many cases a tensioner is needed. The program will calculate the correct number of links and takes the tensioner into account.
At a given number of links the program will calculate the optimum centre distance. Depending on centre distance and chain type a tensioner might still be necessary.
